A public view of my collection listed at Discogs gives a first glimpse of what to expect (with nice record sleeves), but researching it @ Discogs is a mess. Therefore, you've landed in the right place here: the second picture shows my online database's query mask (or front end) of the homepage. Start with a known record, e.g., enter Artist: Madonna and/or Title: Holiday. The output lists the 1983 original (promotional) issue and the 1987 remix. In your following query, if you find it interesting to research this particular music style further, start a new search with Year Prefix '198' plus Style: Pop Clubplay and find 400+ matching records. You may instinctively stop at Gloria Estefan: Dr. Beat of 1984 and click on the Discogs link (linked to a YouTube video, where you can listen to it). Chances are that this way, you've found another forgotten favorite of your youth, and you look further into its surroundings. Another approach would be a 'DJ view' by starting a query with Style: Deep House and Year Prefix '199' to get 500+ ideas for pumping beats with melodies to fill the dancefloor - try to find that overview elsewhere. From a collector's view, you might be interested in whether a record is rare, valuable, and thus collectible. Dig into my overview for 'Want/Have-ratio' and Discogs median prices.
Tips & Tricks for queries (filtering my records): Use one or multiple criteria (enter free text snippets or check pulldown menus). Please note that titles refer to given names of an album / EP / single (but important tracks are searchable as well: e.g., A flock of seagulls w / Modern love is automatic + I ran). Styles (genres) are self-defined and differ from Discogs, e.g., 'House Clubplay' is 'uptempo Disco House', 'House Deep' is 'melodic Deep House' ... pure 'Electro' as somewhat slower than 'Techno' - who can give an exact definition (as in Discogs everything using a synth may be Electro?). Multiple styles may apply to many records as boundaries are fluid, like 'Techno - Trance' or 'Funk - Soul'). Mark single or multiple ('AND') styles with [Command | Windows] and find out. The above 'Want/Have ratio' is a unique approach here, and together with 'Median Price', it gives a good idea about the demand on Discogs for that record. Compare Statistics>Prices to learn more.
